Technique
Using random washes of color plus observation to create a figure.
Size: 24x22" prepared panel.
- Acrylic sepia wash with pencil drawing on prepared board
- Starting grisaille in ultramarine blue, burnt umber, black acrylic. The drip effect suggests the shape of the sleeve.
- More modelling and lightening. The background wash suggests a circle.
- Further refinement and detail. Enlarging the circle.
- Adding a softening layer in alkyd to build up the paint film
- Continuing to work on shadows and adding washes of color in alkyds. Keeping it soft.
- Adding color in the background as a basis for a textured effect, and modelling the face in oils
More to come:
- Working on the blouse in oils
- Adding background texture
- More layers of modelling in oils
- Final glazes and touches in oil
